Down is the New Up
Down is the New Up: 3 Biggest Pieces of Classical Theism Missing From the Modern Mind- Pt. 4.1 Essentialism Cont.
Essentialism's exclusion from our minds has utterly disastrous consequences. When we deny essences, words lose all objective meaning. We think we can create reality however we define it. People lose rights. People impose their will on others based on whatever they feel. Those with the biggest numbers, the loudest voice, or the biggest stick end up dictating our social norms and laws.
Down is the New Up: 3 Biggest Pieces of Classical Theism Missing from the Modern Mind- Pt. 4 Essentialsm
When we deny essentialism, we lose the ability to speak about what is right and wrong. We lose the ability to speak clearly about what things are. In the end, we also lose the ability to speak about causality and undercut empiricism and rationality itself.
Down is the New Up: 3 Biggest Pieces of Classical Theism Missing From the Modern Mind- Pt. 3.2 Teleology Cont.

Down is the New Up: 3 Biggest Pieces of Classical Theism Missing From the Modern Mind- Pt. 3.1 Teleology Cont.
Manifestations of Upside Down Morality I remember what it is like not to see the world teleologically. Just a few years ago, I used to disagree with many biblical moral values. Now, I can't unsee the logic of teleology behind a biblical view of morality. I hope others...
Down is the New Up: 3 Biggest Pieces of Classical Theism Missing From the Modern Mind Pt. 3 – Teleology
Of the three classical theism topics being discussed in this series, the loss of a teleological view of the world has the most devastating consequences. Many things that are objectively bad our modern society now calls good.
Down is the New Up: 3 Biggest Pieces of Classical Theism Missing From the Modern Mind Pt. 2 – Divine Simplicity
Many people have too small a view of God, atheists and theists alike. Divine simplicity is the doctrine of God often missing in modern discourse, its absence causing many errors.
In this series of posts, I will make my case for the three biggest pieces of classical theism that are missing from the modern mind. I believe the loss of these three ideas to be at the heart of most modern errors of knowledge. They are:
1. Divine Simplicity 2. Teleology 3. Essentialism
The effects of the loss of these ideas are not trivial. Their loss is directly responsible for the inability to see Christianity as a rational and viable worldview and why many people are so confused about questions of morality. Furthermore, it is even the cause of many theological errors that arise among modern Christians leading to unnecessary divisions within the church.
